This year marks the 35th birthday of the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus. And this year’s model features tech-y updates inspired by the Vaporfly 4%. Full-length Zoom Air and a beveled heel work together for a snappy heel-to-toe transition and a smooth ride. Stretchy engineered mesh wraps your foot for optimal support and comfort.

FIT:

More than any other generation of the Pegasus, the Pegasus 35 fits snug like a performance shoe. That’s because it’s curve-lasted (more like the Vaporfly than former models) and has a partial bootie construction that wraps the foot for a secure, sock-like fit. However, the removal of a lower eyelet provides a bit of flexibility in the forefoot. The heel cup is also a step up in the fit; it’s tapered away from the Achilles tendon for more heel and Achilles comfort.

A couple of things remain the same, though: This iteration of one of Nike's most popular running shoes retains the same midsole cushion blend and the shoe’s classic mesh upper (it’s stretchy, so if it feels a little snug for your first few runs, just know it loosens up).

RIDE:

The heel to toe transition feels buttery smooth, and the updated full-length Zoom Air in the midsole goes a long way to provide a snappy fast-feeling ride. Every single tester claimed they ran faster (or at least felt like they ran faster) while wearing the 35. The shoe also feels light and durable, perhaps due to the added high-abrasion rubber on the outsole.

(A note: The women’s model has slightly softer cushioning. Nike claims this is more congruent with women’s feet.)

CONCLUSION:

It’s an everyday neutral trainer geared toward performance. However, that doesn’t mean it’s for the elite; it just means it’s a shoe you can do almost anything in, whether that's easy recovery runs, track intervals or weekend long runs. Just know that in the Air Zoom Pegasus 35, you’re guaranteed to look and feel fast.
