Popular Science magazine ranked Syracuse #17 in a list of the country's top 50 greenest cities in 2008. The rankings were based on cumulative criteria in four different areas: electricity, transportation, green living, and recycling and green perspective.

The New York State Commission formed the Erie Canal by digging four feet deep and 40 feet wide from Albany to Buffalo. It created a booming transportation system that lasted for 100 years. Today, you can visit the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse to learn more while touring rotating exhibits.
