This shoe adds pure speed to your runs thanks to FF LEAP foam and a minimal carbon plate to propel you forward when every second counts. Whether you're chasing a personal best or competing at the highest level, the METASPEED RAY will help you reach the finish line in record time.
Details:
- Upper: The ultra-lightweight MATRYX technical mesh locks your foot securely to the platform even at blazing speeds.
- Midsole: The revolutionary FF LEAP foam delivers that super bouncy, lightweight cushioning exactly where forefoot strikers need it most. Combined with the curved sole design, every step helps you conserve energy so you can maintain your intensity when others start to fade in those crucial final kilometers.
- Outsole: When you're running at your peak, the last thing you want to worry about is your footing. ASICSGRIP technology gives you the traction you need on any surface, including wet conditions.

The fastest, lightest shoes out there!
Oh my goodness, how I love my ASICS Metaspeed Rays!!! I knew they were going to be great running shoes, but I just didn't even know how great they are. If I had endless amounts of money, I'd buy another 10 pairs. You won't be disappointed!
The Lightest Shoes Out There
Based on early reviews on YouTube, I wasn't sure if these would be the right shoes for me. I have worn the Metaspeed Edge and Sky - preferred the Sky, the Paris Sky and Tokyo Sky. Each iteration seemed to be a little better than the previous one. Anyway, reviews of the Ray cautioned that this wasn't the show for every runner - particularly if you're a heel-striker. The reviews also suggested a potential balance problem for runners on turns. There were also many positives including the fact that the Ray is currently the lightest running shoe on the market and that the new foam Asics formulated for this is the best for a soft, shock-absorbing run though the carbon plate is placed more forward than the Metaspeed series and many other carbon plate running shoes. I dithered about whether or not I should get these for a recent marathon. Finally ordered from Fleet Street and they arrived as expected. Took a ten-mile run in them ten days before the marathon and they were quite comfortable and decided these were definitely wearing for the marathon. Due to a number of factors but the shoes likely 50-60% of the results, I ran my best time in seven years. Course was flat and weather was around 50 degrees with no precip or major breeze in the Seattle area. To be clear here, I am not an elite runner. Didn't run my first marathon until 60 and I am now 73. Ran the course in 3:53 which was six minutes less than a downhill marathon a year ago. If you are someone who does sub-7 minute marathons, maybe you'd have a problem on a turn but I had none. The mesh and tongue are very thin and you need to work your foot in but, other than that, the shoe fits true to size - in my case a men's 10. The foam does an unbelievable job of absorbing road contact and is better and lighter than the PEBA foam you find in the Metaspeed series, Nike Vaporfly and similar to shoes. Don't know how long it will hold up, but these are the best race day shoes on the market now!
Best Asics Racing Shoe
I've raced in both the Metaspeed Sky-Tokyo & the Metaspeed Ray. The Ray have more bounce and cushion to them which translates to easier and faster miles. They do feel more unstable than the Sky & Edge, but once you get running, they are not a problem. If I was racing on a course with lots of turns, I would probably opt for the Edge or Sky.
Race day shoe
Astonishing shoe for Tempo/Race day running. Best if clocking in over 10-20 miles.
